I recently saw an ad for a residential roofing company that promised if you were not happy with the roofing job they did for you, then you would receive a complete refund. I think that it would be hard to please everyone all the time. I wonder if they have ever had to give people back their money. If they did, then I guess that they would not keep offering the deal.

If the siding company that I used last fall would have offered me this deal, then I would have a lot more money. They did not even put the correct color of siding on my house and I still paid them. I had asked for a beige color from the siding company and they put some kind of yellow siding on my house. All my neighbors told me that they liked it, but I did not like it and I really did not want to have them come back and fix it so I just left it. If I would have had a different siding company come and fix it, it would have cost me double the amount that it did and there was no way that I could afford to do that.

The residential roofing company is very smart to offer such a great deal; you really cannot go wrong with hiring them. If you do not like their work, you do not pay them and if you do like it then you do not mind paying for good work.

Indoors have been out for a long time, at least from my posts. But living room trends have been bolder than even and my guess is that it’s here for keeps; and modern seating includes so much more than before— the fashion statement includes contemporary living room couch, sectional sofas, and fabric sofas. Allowing your living room to breathe in curious color co-ordinations and unusual furniture calls for a shift in outlook and perspective…. For some of us, it may just not be the thing.

So, I dedicate the blog to peppy designs that strike a modern note without overbearing or understating its presence. Check out the space for more such ideas to come up… On a practical note, the concept may be what you are used to, but wrapped in a fresh scheming in terms of color, fabric and print. The Imelda collection reflects just this very idea. A great collection combo consisting of a chaise, ottoman and 2-seater sofa, the color and print is contemporary without ever going overboard, and that’s what’s the part the catches the eye, I guess you could order other colors on special request, but if you like it just the way it is, I suggest using earthy tones and accents in the surrounds to mellow down the drama… For more subtle versions, check out the Petisha collection.

The three seater sofa and single chaise look neat within the context of most interior themes. The neutral tone is great and can be matched up against a great no. of colors and schemes. It’s simple and sweet.. The Carin collection looks like a sensible choice for smaller living areas and newly married couples. The 3-seater sofa is accompanied with a day bed. The earthy tone may be great for regulars. Overall, makes a durable and comfy design with metal legs. What I like is its European flavor that looks cozy and inviting, take a look…

Argon gas is the most popular gas used in the air spaces of replacement windows. The gas is actually heavier and more dense than air so the manufacturers can infuse into the air spaces. They use a pin type apparatus with a tank of the gas to allow the flow of the energy efficient gas in to the chambers.

The effect of the argon gas is that it increases the energy ratings of the windows which means that the homeowner can benefit with lower utility bills. The approximate increase in r-value is about 30 percent than a dual glaze window without the argon gas.

Usually argon is coupled with low e glass insulated windows. The low e has the effect of diminishing the damaging ultra violet rays from the sun and simultaneously increases the energy performance of the window. The combination of the low e and argon gas will increase the energy performance by about 40% over the dual glaze window without these energy savings options.

Replacement Windows Chicago are using the argon and low e combination as the most popular energy savings package. With the rising cost of fuel vinyl windows Chicago have needed the most fuel bill reduction windows that they can invest in.

If you have ever tried to purchase home improvement products such as flooring or any other type, you know how frustrating it can be and how the overwhelming number of options can leave you more confused than you were before you started. You also know how the sales representatives at stores can ask you questions that you do not know, resulting in another trip to the store.

It is not hard to avoid such issues and still get the information you need if you know the right questions to ask and things to do before you make a visit to the home improvement store you plan to do business with.

For the purpose of this article, we will discuss the necessary steps to take when planning to visit a flooring store, but the same type of planning can be applied to most situations related to remodeling.

Make sure your store visit goes smoothly by going through this simple checklist below.

Before you go, consider drawing a simple outline of your room indicating;

* Room exits
* Adjoining room floors - type and color
* Sources of sunlight and other lighting
* Subfloor - what’s underneath (sometimes you can pull up an in-floor heating duct to see)?

You will also need to;
* Measurement - length and width, include closets. This will help you explain your needs to the salesperson.

* Measure the distance or the gap from the bottom of the doors to the top of the floor in the rooms that will have new flooring. This will tell you if the bottoms of the doors will have to be shaved to accommodate the new floor.

* Make a note of the color and type of baseboards that are currently installed. Include shoe molding if it exist.

Bring with you to the store:
* Swatches - room fabrics, paint chips. These will help you match floors with your decor for your room design.

* Pictures - take pictures of the rooms that are going to receive improvements. These pictures will serve as a guide in case you have to make a different choice than you originally planned.

Questions the salesperson may ask you:
Durability/Performance

* Is there light or heavy traffic in this room?
* What is the room used for?
* Do you have children and if so, how old are they?
* Do you have pets and if so, what kind?
* How long do you want this flooring to last?
* Is there a door to the outside in the room?

Style/Appearance

* Do you have a certain color in mind?
* What are the room’s lighting sources?
* What types of furnishings do you have?

The New Look

* What’s the style of the room? Traditional? Contemporary? Rustic?
* What’s the feel of the room? Casual? Formal? Somewhere in between?

Questions you may want to ask the salesperson:

* Estimate - Do charges apply?
* Samples - Available to take home?
* Underlayment - What type is required?
* Warranties on flooring - What is offered?

Flooring Installation

* What is the cost?
* What is the installation procedure?
* Who handles appliance and fixture removal and replacement?

You Need To Know

* Who disposes of old flooring?
* Are new moldings, wall base and toe kick required?
* Will the new flooring add height to the room?
* Are installers certified?

By following these simple steps, your visit to the flooring store will be more productive and will enable you to get a more thorough explanation of the flooring products that are available as well as information you need to get the flooring you want.

Other benefits include knowledge of the flooring installation steps that the company follows and how much you will have to pay for this service.

Having your deck properly cleaned and sealed is essential to its longevity. Cleaning and sealing a deck should not be a one time thing; it needs to be done every couple of years. Most professional deck cleaning companies will offer a deck maintenance program so that your wood deck looks good all the time and lasts for years to come. In this article we will answer some common questions home owners have pertaining to deck maintenance.

How soon can I have my new deck cleaned and sealed? Many people have heard that you should let your deck “dry out” for a year prior to cleaning and sealing decks it. This is a myth and the truth be told, most of the damage is done to your deck in the first 6 months or so.

After 12 months the wood can be split and cracked from water damage and will have turned gray from the suns damaging UV rays. At this point it isn’t too late to have it cleaned and protected but the sooner the better.

A professional deck restoration company can take moisture readings in the wood and let you know for sure when your deck is ready to be sealed. Usually within 1-3 months, depending on the climate and location of the deck, it will be ready for a proper cleaning and some deck sealer.

Is it possible to restore a deck that has aged? Depending on the situation an older deck can be brought back to life. As long as the boards aren’t too warped or rotted, getting rid of all the gray dead wood fibers is not a problem. Some sanding may be necessary before it is sealed and your deck contractor may offer those services also.

Even if there is some structural damage a deck contractor could probably do some repairs for you before having it cleaned and sealed. A quality deck maintenance contractor should be able to make an assessment of your deck before attempting to restore it, that way you know what to expect.

Can I clean and seal my own deck? It is possible for a do-it-yourselfer to restore their own deck but I recommend they have some knowledge of the chemicals used and experience in using a pressure washing unit. Wood is actually very soft and when hit with too much water pressure it can easily be marked and scarred. Some people don’t realize all the skill and know how that is essential in restoring a deck properly and will sometimes get a friend are family member to do it for them.

Again I don’t recommend letting anyone lacking the experience to touch your deck. When a wood decks is cleaned and sealed improperly it will only cost you more money to have it fixed and done right the next time.

Can I just seal my deck without washing it? The answer to this question is NO, not if you want the sealer to penetrate properly and last. The number one reason a sealer fails is because the wood was not prepared properly. Even a very expensive sealer is not going to do its job unless the wood has been prepped correctly.

Special chemicals need to be used to remove dead fibers, dirt, mildew and other pollutants and it all has to be cleaned using low water pressure so the wood isn’t damaged. In some cases a deck sealer stripper is used to remove an old failing sealer, it is important to remove all traces of old sealers so the new sealer can adhere to the wood.

More times than not, most sealers will not adhere to each other and some sealers won’t even adhere to itself after a certain amount of time. Contractors using the proper stripping technique will depend heavily on their chemicals to do the work so the right amount of low pressure can be used.

After the cleaning or stripping process a neutralizing step is then needed. The reason for this is because the cleaner or stripper used is considered a caustic and will leave the wood with a high PH level. Deck sealer does not adhere well or properly in this situation. A neutralizer is sprayed on the wood to lower the PH and leave the wood more acidic so the sealer will protect and last a couple years like expected.

Deck restoration and maintenance is a wonderful service when done right, it saves you money by protecting your added living space. Please understand that not all deck cleaning companies have the proper knowledge, just like any industry there are the unethical companies out there just trying to make a buck, so be sure to ask the contractor what his methods and techniques are so you can get the service you expect.

At some point in time, every home owner will have to hire a contractor to replace the windows in there home. And for most people, vinyl replacement windows will be the style of window chosen because of the energy efficient characteristics and affordable cost usually associated with them.

But low cost is not always what you get. Many contractors and home improvement centers use what is called a bait and switch tactic to get you into the store or to get into your home. Once they have your interest, they tell you how bad that low cost series window is and that you really need a better line of window if you want to get your moneys worth.

This practice is widely used and many home owners have felt trapped by pushy salesman and think they have to buy the upgrade in order to get the quality window they want.

But getting a quality window doesn’t have to be like this. There are many different brands of quality vinyl windows that provide excellent efficiency and smooth operating sashes. You can get everything from double hung windows to bow and bay windows for an affordable price if you know what to look for and where to look.

You also need to avoid the low cost gimmicks you see spread through sales papers and flyers. You can do this by researching the different brands of windows on the market before you request an estimate. All you need is internet access and about an hour to review the information provided by the manufacturers.

Do a quick search for vinyl replacement windows and go the manufacturer’s website. You will find all the info you need to know which series from each window manufacturer is right for you.

Once you have found the windows you want, and then search for a contractor that provides those windows and give them a call or request an estimate online. Make sure you include a comment about the windows you are looking for or tell them what you have been looking at if you call them.

This will keep them from trying to hit you with the bait and switch move since they know you have already done research on the product and that you’re already aware of which vinyl windows are cheap and which are good quality. Even though you really just know enough to be dangerous, by presenting yourself as if you know something about windows, you will save yourself from being ripped off and from paying too much for someone to replace your windows.

You can also call or go visit a local distribution center and look at the windows first hand. Most distributors will be more that happy to show you their windows and give you brochures that will describe the benefits of each window they sell. They can also be a good source for locating a certified window contractor. The distributors will usually only recommend the most well known contractors that have a good history with them.

So in summary, just be cautious and make sure you do your homework before you start making phone calls. This will save you time, money and ensure you get the best windows for your home.
